The Additional Director General (ADG) of Odisha Police Crime Branch, Sanjeev Panda reached the SP office at Puri on Saturday to review the investigation of the alleged murder case of Chittaranjan Palai, a close aide of the Deputy Chairperson of Odisha Planning Board and senior BJD leader Sanjay Das Burma.

The Crime Branch ADG also visited the accident spot of Jagannath Sarangi (Jaga), another associate of Burma and the spot where body of Chittaranjan was found.

Later, speaking to the reporters, Panda said, “The investigation is underway and all possible angles are being taken into account. Statements of witnesses have been recorded and lie detection test will be conducted if needed.”

“Though we have made significant strides in the investigation, we have not reached any conclusion yet,” Panda added.

Earlier on Thursday, the Odisha Crime Branch which took over the investigation, had quizzed the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Burma among others.

As per reports, the CB officials questioned Burma’s PSO, Sarbeswar Jena and the nephew of Palai, Dillip who were also present at the feast hosted by one Jagannath Sarangi on that fateful night. Besides them, three others- Umakanta Paikray, Suryaprasad Mishra and Jagannath Sarangi were also grilled by the sleuths on Thursday.

Palai went missing on Saturday night after attending a feast hosted by another aide of Burma, Jagannath Sarangi alias Jaga at Matiapada in Puri. His body was later fished out from Nuanai near Puri on Monday.

Subhadra Nayak, the wife of the deceased, had then demanded to bring both Jaga and Das Burma under the ambit of the probe. “I want the Police to question Das Burma too. They both have conspired to kill my husband,” she had alleged.
