A murder convict escaped from the clutches of the police while receiving treatment at the Acharya Harihar Cancer Hospital in Cuttack on Friday.

The convict has been identified as Muku Santa (50) who was diagnosed with throat cancer.

As per reports, Santa was lodged at Koraput jail in a murder case and was shifted to Choudwar circle jail a year back.

He has been getting treated at the cancer hospital in Cuttack since then.

However, he gave the authorities a slip on Friday night during a treatment session at the hospital.

Speaking to OTV, Jailer of Choudwar Central Jail, Bibhendu Bhuyan said, “Since his (Santa) shift to Choudwar jail a year ago, he has been regularly visiting the cancer hospital for treatment.”

“He does not know the Cuttack city well, so he is probably hiding somewhere nearby. I am sure the police will catch him soon,” Bhuyan added.

An FIR has been registered at the Mangalabag police station in this connection.
