More than two-and-a-half months after the death of aspiring model Soumya Ranjan Panigrahi, police have registered a case against singer Sonali Nanda.

The case was registered against Sonali and her mother at Infocity police station in Bhubaneswar following the direction of the Orissa High Court.

The mother-daughter duo has been booked under Sections 306 (Abetment of suicide) and 34 of IPC.

Soumya had died by suicide on January 30 at his residence in Nandan Vihar area of Bhubaneswar. In his suicide note, he had blamed Sonali for his death.

The deceased’s family had lodged a complaint with the police and later knocked on the doors of the Orissa High Court alleging police inaction and seeking justice.

Taking up the case for hearing, the HC in February had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Bhubaneswar to take action within the next three weeks on the allegations made by the deceased’s family.
