In a blatant act of lawlessness, a mob barged into a police station and mercilessly thrashed the cops present inside the police station during a protest in Odisha on Tuesday.

People from six panchayats gathered outside Adaba police station in Mohana area of Gajapati and staged a demonstration against forcible detention of a man at the police station.

According to reports, police had conducted a sudden raid and arrested a person from Jharanpur village over charges of ganja smuggling late last night.

However, local residents alleged that police had registered a fake case to pick up the man. Protesting the alleged police excess, hundreds of protesters gheraod the police station and demanded the police to release the man.

But the situation turned ugly when the mob turned furious and barged into the police station premises by breaking the gate of the complex. Protesters in a fit of anger thrashed several cops present inside the police station.

Several office items like stationery, furniture, documents have been destroyed in the attack by the protesters.

Meanwhile, anticipating further escalation of the unrest and attack, police have been moved out of Adaba police station.  Police have not commented anything in connection with the incident.
