The vice chairperson of Bonai block in Sundargarh district Binati Behera, who had been missing since January 4, was rescued on Friday. Tikayatpali police rescued her from Kandhamal district.
In this connection, the police have detained a contractor who was with Binati at the time of the rescue.
The police are on the job to ascertain whether she was abducted or went there on her own.
Notably, Binati had gone to Khamara, in Angul district, to drop her son at his school on January 4. But, she did not return home.
It was when she did not return after a long time that the worried family members launched a frantic search for her at every possible place but to no avail. Later, Binati’s husband Prasanna Behera filed a complaint with Tikayatpali Police Station on January 6. Prasanna suspected her wife had been kidnapped. He had also mentioned it in his complaint.
Then the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Swaraj Debta had said, “Binati had gone to Angul to drop her son on January 4. Since then, she has been missing. Based on the complaint lodged by her husband, police have launched a manhunt to find out the whereabouts of the block vice-chairperson.”
A detailed investigation is underway.
