Unidentified miscreants targeted an Automated teller machine (ATM) of the State Bank of India (SBI) and decamped with over Rs 10 lakh cash from it in Bhubaneswar. The incident has been reported from the SBI ATM kiosk at Hatasahi under Lingaraj police station limits in the Smart City.

Sources said that the miscreants stole over Rs 10 lakh cash from the ATM after breaking it open using gas cutters late on Sunday night. Some people had alerted police after suspecting movement of some criminals near the spot. However, the miscreants fled the spot before the arrival of the cops.

Sources said cash was filled in the ATM on Saturday and the miscreants targeted it the next day. “Around Rs 10.59 lakh has been stolen from the ATM. All the security measures were intact. However, the miscreants used some new techniques and also sprayed some chemicals on CCTV,” said an official.

A shopkeeper said, “At around 5:30 am I came to know about the incident. I have a jewellery shop nearby. I am in a state of fear as my shop is nearby. Though we had demanded proper security measures, no step has been taken along with lack of adequate patrolling, especially during late night hours.”
