At a time when the cops are busy patrolling the major streets, the robbers seem to be on a looting spree in the bylanes of smart city Bhubaneswar. The case in point is the recent burglary at Unit 6 area in the residence of Pramod Panda, who is posted as the Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in the Odisha Assembly.

Unidentified miscreants have allegedly looted gold ornaments, motorcycle, TV and other articles worth Rs 12 lakh from Panda’s government quarters yesterday.  As per reports, Panda along with his family had left home at around 7:30 pm yesterday and returned at around 2 am. He found that locks of the main gate and grille were broken after returning from Puri.

The incident has raised several questions at a time when blocking, checking, and patrolling activities have been intensified in Bhubaneswar by the Commissionerate Police under its ‘safe city’ drive.

Sources said Panda had recently warned some anti-social elements who were doing ‘Khatti’ near his quarters.

Following the burglary incident, police along with forensic and dog squads have started an investigation. Sources said some youths from the nearby slum have been picked up by Police for questioning.
