Miscreants snatch gold chain from woman in Baripada
A brazen theft took place near Baripada Town Police Station in Odisha, when a woman was allegedly snatched off her gold chain while returning home from a religious event. The incident occurred in close proximity to the Sheetala Temple when the victim, identified as Poonam Khandelwal from Bara Bazar was returning home.
Two miscreants, riding a Pulsar motorcycle snatched the chain from her before making a swift escape, the woman alleged.
“Two miscreants came and tried to snatch my gold chain. They had come on a bike. Though I tried to resist, they managed to loot my gold chain. I was returning home after attending a religious event. As the incident occurred in broad daylight, it shows that it is not safe to step outside wearing ornaments, “alleged the victim.

The local authorities were promptly informed, with a formal complaint registered at the police station, which has since initiated an investigation into the chain snatching incident.
The same day saw a spate of thefts reported from across three different areas within Baripada city, adding to the concerns of the local community.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The rise in such incidents has prompted a demand for an increased police presence in and around the city. Authorities are working on identifying and apprehending the suspects using local surveillance and community reports.
