Unidentified miscreants allegedly robbed a couple on New Delhi – Puri Purushottam Express by offering them tea laced with intoxicants.

The couple who hails from Janardanpur village under Jagatsinghpur district were travelling from Delhi and were scheduled to de-board at Cuttack.

However, as per reports, some miscreants made them drink spiked tea in the train after which the couple lost their consciousness and fainted. Then the miscreants robbed the couple of their valuables including their wallet.

The incident came to the fore after the train arrived at its destination in Puri and the GRP personnel rescued the couple, who were still unconscious. The Railway police admitted them to Puri Hospital. However, they were later shifted to SCB hospital in Cuttack after their health condition deteriorated.

Speaking on the incident, Puri GRP IIC, Santosh Bahinipati said, “The victims told the police that somebody gave them tea to drink in the train, after which they passed out on their berths and do not know anything afterwards.”

“Though we admitted them to Puri hospital they were later shifted to Cuttack. Their condition was not good. The couple was still not able to give any statement. So we are still in the dark about the exact turn of events,” said Bahinipati.

“The only relevant thing they have been able to tell is a mobile number which is going unanswered. We suspect that their phone has also been stolen,” he added.
