Three unidentified bike-borne miscreants looted around Rs 70,000 from a female executive of a finance company after opening fire at her on Thursday. 

The female employee, identified as Ranjita Khatua, has suffered a gunshot injury on her right leg. She was initially taken to the Khordha district headquarters hospital (DHH) and was later shifted to the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar as she required further treatment for the injury. 

Police said the day light robbery took place near Dhanaghar Nuagaon under Begunia police limits in Khordha district around afternoon.  

Ranjita, who works with Madura Microfinance Company, had gone to Dhanaghar Nuagaon area to collect money from self help groups (SHGs). On her way back, three bike-borne miscreants accosted her before intercepting her near Dhanaghar Nuagaon. They then tried to snatch the cash bag from her. 

When Ranjita put up a resistance, the miscreants allegedly opened fired at her before speeding away from the spot with the cash bag. 

On being informed, a team from Begunia police station reached the spot and found a severely injured Ranjita lying on the road in a pool of blood. The police then took her to the nearby district headquarters hospital (DHH) before shifting her to the AIIMS, Bhubaneswar where she is presently undergoing treatment for the solitary gunshot wound.

Sub divisional police officer (SDPO), Khordha, Sushil Kumar Mishra said a scientific team has carried out inspection at the spot while two teams are investigating into the incident. “We have already alerted the nearby police stations and our efforts are on to nab the robbers at the earliest,” said Mishra.
