Burglary at jewellery store

Throwing up a challenge for the Commissionerate Police, unidentified miscreants targeted a jewellery store local in Patia’s Kalarahanga area in Bhubaneswar late on Friday night. The miscreants have also damaged the CCTV camera of the jewellery store and gained access by breaking the shutter and gate of the shop.

The matter came to light on Saturday morning after one of the customers of the shop informed the owner about the theft.

“At around 6 am, I got information from a customer that the gates and shutter of my shop were broken. I subsequently called the local corporator and went to the police station and lodged a complaint,” said the owner of the store adding that only after a proper assessment, it will be known how much ornaments have been stolen.

PK Patnaik, Inspector of Infocity police station said, “On getting information about the incident, we reached the spot. Preliminary investigation shows that two to three miscreants were involved in the incident. It is suspected that the incident occurred late at night. A forensic team is on the spot and the matter will be investigated.” Some locals alleged that lack of police patrolling at night has made the area unsafe.
