Unidentified miscreants have once again targeted a temple in Odisha. This time the robbers decamped with cash and other valuables from the donation box of Madanmohan temple inside the premises of Sakhigopal temple in Puri district.

The matter came to light on Sunday morning. It is suspected that the miscreants committed the crime late on Saturday night. The priest of the temple came to know about the theft at the temple premises when he reached the spot early morning today.

As per the priest, there was cash and ornaments which are usually donated by devotees coming to the temple. After stealing valuables from the donation box, the miscreants dumped the box near the kitchen of the temple.

Satyabadi police have reached the spot and have started an investigation into the incident.

"Two security personnel were sleeping and when they woke up at around 3 am, they found the locks of the temple broken. We have found four locks broken. We have found some fingerprints and efforts are on to nab the miscreants," said Bishnu Prasad Pati, a senior police official.

Pati informed that some cash from the donation box and a necklace had been stolen from the temple.
