Panic gripped National Highway-53 after unidentified miscreants allegedly lobbed bombs on a delivery van to commit robbery near Baunsakana under Bhuban police limits in Dhenkanal district on Saturday night.

As per reports, the vehicle was carrying several grocery items including biscuits and had delivered the consignment in Jajpur district. Three bike-borne miscreants intercepted the delivery van while it was returning to Kamakshyanagar. The vehicle was partially damaged in the bombing incident.

"We had come for marketing from Kamakhyanagar and returning when three bike-borne miscreants hurled bombs. They failed to loot cash as they could not find the money. Two of the miscreants had covered their faces with a towel while another wore a cap. Our vehicle has been damaged in the bombing incident," said Subrat Barik, a staff.

Sources said that four persons were inside the vehicle when the incident occurred. However, it is not clear whether the bombs were hurled with the intention of loot or there was some other reason like extortion.

Meanwhile, police have started an investigation in connection with the incident.
