It is now a known fact that cyber criminals are on the prowl and they are coming up with new techniques to loot money from the bank accounts of unsuspecting customers. In one such cyber fraud, a criminal posing as Brahmagiri Block Development Officer (BDO) looted Rs 31,000 from the account of three teachers of a government school on Monday.
As per reports, the caller had sought the account details and other credentials of the victim teachers on the pretext that money will be credited into their account towards procurement of sanitisers in their school.
Debjani Nayak, a teacher said, “Our headmaster had gone to Puri to attend a training programme when he received a phone call from an unknown caller. The headmaster forwarded the call to the headmaster in-charge. The caller had identified himself as the BDO Brahmagiri and asked us who was using online transactions through SBI Yono.”
The teacher further informed that it was on request of the headmaster in-charge, the caller spoke with her and took all the credentials (transaction ID) and Rs 3,000 was deducted from her account.
“The caller called me again and asked me to share details of another account having a minimum balance of Rs 20,000. The caller took all the details of two other teachers and nearly Rs 31,000 was debited,” Nayak added.
Dilip Kumar Dhal, IIC Brahmagiri Police Station said, “We have received a complaint that three teachers received a call and the caller took account details and transaction ID on the pretext that some government money will be credited into their account. We have registered a case and further investigation is underway.”
