Minor girl ‘raped and murdered’ in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

A minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered under Tentulikhunti police limits in Nabarangpur district on Tuesday.

The matter come to the fore after the mutilated body of the victim was found near a bush behind a school under Tentulikhunti police limits.

According to sources, the girl went missing on Tuesday afternoon. After a frantic search, her body with deep injuries on it was found.

While a towel was found stuffed inside the mouth of the deceased, her dress was discovered some meters away from the body, sources added.

Following the recovery of the body, the family members of the deceased brought rape and murder allegations and staged a road blockade demanding stringent action against the miscreants.

“After a frantic search, we found her body behind the school near a bush. We suspect that she was raped and murdered. We demand capital punishment,” said Damburudhara Bhatara, samiti member.

On being informed about the incident, police and scientific team reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.

“We recovered the body of a minor girl aged around 11 to 12 years. As per the complaints of the deceased’s father, we have registered a case and investigation into the matter is underway,” said Krushna Chandra Bhatra, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Nabarangpur district.

Nabarangpur MLA Gouri Shankar Majhi met the family members of the deceased minor girl and assured them of justice.

“The family members of the deceased and villagers are suspecting it is a case of rape and murder. I will urge the police to conduct a thorough probe and take appropriate action against the culprit,” said Majhi.

Meanwhile, police have detained three persons in connection with the alleged rape and murder case.
