In yet another instance of Kangaroo court justice, two persons including a woman were tied to a pole and thrashed by locals on suspicion of kidnapping a minor girl at Karanjia of Mayurbhanj district. It was alleged that the duo- Mamata Mahakud and Afzal Ansari- had kidnapped the 13-year-old girl from Batapalasa village on the pretext of taking her to Rath Yatra yesterday.

As the minor girl did not return home today, her family members launched a frantic search. Later the villagers, who had allegedly seen the minor girl leaving with the two accused on a motorcycle, intercepted them and tied them to a pole near the village water tank.

This is the second instance in the past few days that a minor has reportedly been abducted in the region. Earlier, a minor was rescued nearly 72 hours after being kidnapped, sources said.

Meanwhile, on getting information Karanjia police reached the spot today and rescued the woman and the youth who were held captive by the locals.

The police have launched searches at several places to trace the missing minor girl.
