In the aftermath of the high-profile Manish Anurag murder case, the Commissionerate Police on Friday shunted out the Inspector-In-Charge of Tamando Police station, Pramod Pattanayak, on charges of dereliction of duty for letting an illegal dance bar remain operational in his jurisdictional area since September.
The axe also fell on constable Prasanna Behera, President of Havildar & Constable Association Bhubaneswar, as he was placed under suspension on the basis of a probe by the Additional SP. Behera, who is said to be running South City bar on a lease, was suspended for opening the bar till the late-night hours in clear violation of Covid-19 norms,
The South City bar, as per reports whose license period ended in September, grabbed the crime spotlight post the murder of the son of a senior journalist in Bhubaneswar on October 10. The CCTV footage then revealed that Manish left the bar in the wee hours on the same day.
According to police, all the three accused along with the deceased Manish had gone to the hotel after visiting a place in the Laxmisagar area on October 9 (Saturday night). Later, they attacked Manish following a dispute over hotel bill payment. The accused had later dumped Manish’s body in a pond in the vicinity with an intention to destroy evidence.
Meanwhile, the Commissionerate Police has raided the illegal bar on Friday and seized liquor in huge quantity. The seizures also included currency notes in denominations of 10 & 50, believed to be stocked for showering on bar dancers.
Speaking about the raid, Bhubaneswar DCP, Uma Shankar Dash said, “While probing the murder case, it came to the fore that the bar was opened late on the nights of October 9-10 in clear violation of the COVID guidelines, following which a case was registered against the bar.”
“However, after probing further it was revealed that the bar was even operating illegally. It was being run without a licence post its expiry in September 2021. For which, the bar was raided and seizures were made. Two persons have also been detained in this connection,” Dash informed.
