In a fresh development in the sensational abduction and murder of cameraman Manas Swain, a new video, which is believed to have motivated the horrific crime, surfaced on Wednesday.
Former Director, I&PR department and OIS officer Niranjan Sethi, who has been arrested in connection with case, can be seen portraying the lead character in the purported short film which was shot at Puri beach. The Crime Branch is said to have been trying to solve the riddle as to how the video contributed to the abduction and murder of the Nayagarh cameraman.
Sources in the know of the investigation suspect that this particular footage in the short film, which was earlier believed to have been deleted, was the factor prompting the murder.
In the footage, Sethi could be seen holding a little girl in his arms with some other people in knee deep sea water in what appears to be the a rescue scene.
Meanwhile, Crime Branch sources said the probe agency is likely to grill the four accused - Sampurna news portal owner and prime accused in the murder case, Sharmistha Rout, her aide Jhuna Bhoi, Niranjan Sethi and owner of Raj Communication, Ranjan Nayak to elicit more information about the murder.
All the five accused have been remanded to CB custody till April 5.
Notably, Sharmishta was arrested by the CB, along with her associate Jhuna Bhoi, from Nalanga area of Bhadrak district on Monday.
Both Sharmishta and Jhuna were returning to Odisha from Kolkata in a bus when they were apprehended. Sources said Sharmishta had spent few days in Kolkata and Guwahati.
