Man thrashes wife to death in Bhubaneswar, held
A man has been arrested for allegedly beating his wife to death at Basuaghai under Sahid Nagar police limits in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. Family dispute is said to be the reason behind the crime.
The police have identified the deceased as Nilima and the accused as Soubhagya Ranjan Das. The duo has a minor daughter.
Sources said, the couple engaged in a quarrel over some family matter Friday night. A day later, Nilima’s body was found under mysterious circumstances. The neighbours immediately informed the police who along with a scientific team reached the spot and recovered the body.
Sanjeeb Kumar Satapathy, ACP, Zone 5, Bhubaneswar, said, “The couple had been living in Basuaghai village. They had an altercation last night and the woman’s body was found in the morning under mysterious circumstances. It is too early to say anything about the cause of death. We are waiting for post mortem report."
However, the accused’s father termed the allegation of his son beating his daughter-in-law to death as baseless. “The relationship between them had been good. Yesterday night, due to some reasons they had a quarrel and my daughter-in-law gave him a push and his head hit against the wall.”
“A while later, he complained of pain in his head and she then called a 108 ambulance and took him to Capital hospital. After check up and treatment, they returned home. But when my son fell asleep, she ended her life by hanging from the ceiling fan,” he added.
Meanwhile, the police have launched a probe to determine what led to the quarrel between the couple.
