In a shocking incident, a man allegedly thrashed his friend to death over past enmity at Bahadalpur under Khandagiri police limits in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

While the deceased has been identified as Ashok Sethi, the accused is Jagannath Dhibara.

According to sources, both Sethi and Dhibara are drivers of vehicles engaged in sanitation work in the city.

Sethi and Dhibara along with two others had dinner together last night. Later, a verbal dwell broke out between the duo. The fight took an ugly turn after Dhibara attacked Sethi with an iron rod and plastic pipe.

Sethi sustained grievous injuries in the attack and died on the spot, sources informed.

Upon being informed about the incident, Khandagiri police reached the spot and detained Dhibara for further questioning in connection with the case.

“Three drivers and a labour stayed here last night. When one of them woke up, he found Sethi dead. As the duo had a fight last night, they are suspecting that Dhibara might have killed Sethi. We have detained several workers and questioned them in connection with the case,” Khandagiri police station IIC Dayanidhi Nayak said.

Further investigation into the matter is on.
