Rashmi Ranjan

A man was allegedly stabbed to death over political rivalry at Dahianta village under Aul Police limits in Kendrapara district late on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as Amit Kumar Patra of Sahira village.

According to sources, Amit along with his brother-in-law Sanjay Jena had gone to Dahianta village to attend a programme.

While the duo was returning home, another person from the village attacked them with a knife leaving them critically injured.

Profusely bleeding, Amit and Sanjay were immediately rushed to Pattamundai hospital where doctors declared Amit, 'brought dead', informed sources.

Sanjay, who also sustained grievous injuries in the attack, is undergoing treatment at the hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.

While the exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, deceased Amit’s relatives suspect it to be a fallout of political rivalry.

“I received a call that Amit was attacked and lying in a pool of blood. I immediately rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. I suspect political rivalry might be the reason behind the attack,” said Kishore Chandra Patra, uncle of the deceased.

Meanwhile, the police have detained the accused for questioning and further investigation into the matter is on.

“One Rashmi Ranja Roul attacked Amit and Sanjay with a knife after an altercation broke out between them. While Amit collapsed after the attack, Sanjay sustained critical injuries. The accused has been detained and questioning is on,” said Sandhyarani Behura, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Pattamundai.
