In a shocking incident, a man was killed and his daughter sustained critical injuries after an ex-Army personnel allegedly opened fire at them over a land dispute. The incident has been reported from Ganjam’s Polasara.

The deceased has been identified as Bijay Behera, a resident of Kumand village under Khallikote police limits.

The deceased’s daughter who sustained bullet injuries is now battling for her life, sources informed, adding that, the accused has been identified as Prasant Behera, an ex-Army personnel.

On being informed, police rushed to the spot and apprehended the accused. The cops have also seized the gun used for the heinous crime. While no exact reason was known immediately, family members alleged land dispute as the reason behind the brutal murder.

On the other hand, relatives and family members of the deceased accused the local police of inaction. They slammed the local police for not giving protection to the deceased despite repeated pleas.

“They threw us out of the police station even as we waited for hours and requested them for protection,” a family member alleged.

Briefing on the incident, the deceased’s brother said, “The accused is ex-Army personnel and had been threatening us. He would roam around with a gun in the village so we had approached the police for protection. However, they did not pay any heed. Instead, they threw us out of the police station even as we requested them to arrest the accused. Had the police intervened on time, my brother would have been alive today. I demand justice for my brother and stringent action against such errant police officers.”

Similarly, another relative alleged, “We were kept waiting outside the police station for hours, but the cops did not pay any heed. Imagine the situation of common people when such errant police officers are there to guard us.”
