The body of a man was found stuffed in a trolley bag in Haripur forest under Nachuni police jurisdiction in Khordha district on Sunday, sending a shock wave in the locality.

As per sources, the body was stuffed in a blue trolley bag just about 10 metre into the forest from the road. It was suspected that the man was murdered by some miscreants and the body was packed in the trolley bag in the forest to hide the crime.

Some locals spotted the body and contacted the police. The police rushed to the spot along with a scientific team and launched a probe into the case. Balugaon sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) also visited the spot.

It was alleged that the forest has turned into a safe heaven for the anti-socials. Empty liquor bottles and glasses were found a few away from the body.

A dog squad has also pressed into service to establish the circumstances leading to the death of the man.

“The 2.5 km stretch between National Highway 16 and Haripur is a busy one which sees the movement of people of five panchayats day and night. This is the first instance of dumping of a body here. The assailants thought they would easily dispose of the body here without any trouble,” said a local resident of Balugaon.

Further inquiry is underway into the case.
