Man kills son in a fit of rage, later commits suicide in Nuapada

In a horrific incident, a man hacked his son to death and later committed suicide in Phokatpada under Dharambandha police limits in Nuapada district on Thursday night.

As per sources, Nakula Rout killed his son Shobhit in an inebriated condition and later committed suicide by hanging himself in his house.
Locals informed, Shobhit married a girl of other caste 14 years ago. Since his marriage, both father and son were at loggerheads. Neigbours said, the duo used to quarrel even over small issues.

Thursday was such an unlucky day, both engaged in a banter over family matters. In a fit of rage, Nakula hacked his son with an axe, after realising his mistake, he hanged himself.

“The duo used to quarrel everyday, but we have not imagined Nakula will take such a step. It is sad how contrabands are ruining peace and harmony of family,” said a local.

After receiving information, police reached the spot and collected the bodies for autopsy.

“Yesterday night we received the report that a father killed his son and later committed suicide. Further investigation to the matter is underway,” said Prashant Pattnayak, Nuapada SDPO.

He added, “Autopsy report will reveal whether Nakula was in inebriated condition or not.”
