Man hacks wife to death after quarrel, hangs self in Bolangir

An argument between a couple took an ugly turn when the man allegedly hacked his wife to death before killing self in Bolangir district of Odisha on Tuesday.

The shocking incident took place at Debripali village under Belpada police limits in the district.

According to sources, the couple had an argument at farmland following which an irate husband Bhakta Nayak (43) killed his wife Belamati Nayak with the help of an axe. After killing his wife, Bhakta is reported to have hanged self near the farmland.  

From the prima facie evidence, it was learnt that Bhakta had gone to collect firewood. Later, his wife reached the farmland with meal for both of them. They were having water rice (Pakhala) together when an altercation ensued between them. Out of rage, Bhakta killed his wife. When  Bhakta realised that his wife is no more, he hanged self 50 metres away from the farmland.

The couple's younger son was away at school when the incident took place. The police are yet to seize the bodies.
