In a bizarre incident, a man allegedly hacked his mother to death after she refused to prepare egg curry at Ib village under Sadar Police Station limits in Jharsuguda district on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Kumudini Bhoi (45). The accused son, Rajesh Bhoi has been arrested by the police and will be forwarded to the court, informed Jharsuguda Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Nirmal Mahapatra on Tuesday.

As per reports, Rajesh, who is a daily wage labourer came back home after work with some eggs from the market. He asked his mother to make egg curry.

However, Kumudini refused to do so and told she will cook the curry some other day. This led to an altercation between the two.

Later, Rajesh, in a fit of rage, attacked her with a sharp weapon on her head and neck. Kumudini died on the spot.

Kumudini’s brother-in-law, Hemsagar Bhoi who stays in the neighbouring house, rushed to the spot after hearing her screams and saw her in a pool of blood. Later, he informed the matter to the Sadar Police.

“A case under IPC Section 302 (murder) has been registered and Rajesh Bhoi has been arrested. A scientific team was called upon for a detailed investigation of the crime spot and the dead body has been sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem,” said the SDPO.
