Man dies after youth attacks him with axe in Jagatsinghpur; another critical

Tension gripped Hitarana village under Tirtol police limits after a man was brutally hacked to death by a youth with an axe on Wednesday. One more villager has also been injured in the attack by the youth. The deceased has been identified as Binod Das.

The incident occurred when Binod was on his way back home after buying milk. The exact reason behind the attack is not clear.

Niranjan Das, the village head said, “Binod Das was returning home when a youth identified as Subhas Biswal attacked him with an axe. Subhas also attacked one more person in the village. We have admitted the injured to the hospital. We are demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the family of the deceased and Rs 10 lakh to the injured.”

Sisir Das, ex-sarpanch said that accused Subhas was cutting a tree with the axe when he picked up a quarrel with the deceased and others over some matter. The accused was earlier arrested in some cases.”
