Man cuts daughter-in-law’s nose with knife; woman killed in ‘bucket’ attack’ by husband in separate incidents in Odisha

Police on Monday detained an elderly man for questioning following allegations that he inflicted injury to his daughter-in-law after a quarrel at Gobara village under Gurudijhatia police limits in Cuttack district.

As per initial reports, the accused man allegedly cut the nose of his daughter-in-law after picking up a fight with her. Sources said that the man’s granddaughter was playing with a knife at their house when he asked her to drop it. As the kid did not listen, the man allegedly beat her up.

On seeing this, the girl’s mother rushed to the spot and entered into a verbal dual with her father-in-law. In a fit of rage, the accused father-in-law attacked her with the same knife. Following the incident, the woman was rushed to the hospital and subsequently, police brought her father-in-law for questioning in connection with the incident.

The injured woman’s husband was not present at home when the incident occurred. As it is a case of a family dispute, so far no formal police complaint in connection with the incident has been registered.

In another incident, a man allegedly killed his wife by hitting her with a bucket over some family dispute at Banida village in Balasore district. The deceased has been identified as Kabita.

Police have detained the accused identified as Sanjay Mohanty. The incident occurred following a quarrel between the couple today. It is alleged that Sanjay attacked Kabita with the help of a steel bucket leading to her death.
