Man Beats Mother To Death In Odisha's Balasore, Detained

A man beat his mother to death at Gujadiha village under Soro police limits in Balasore district on Saturday. The woman Satyabhama Behera was severely thrashed by her son Ratani with a stick which reportedly led to her death. 

As per reports, Ratani requested his mother to give him something to eat but for reasons unknown, he lost his cool and launched an attack on Satyabhama while she was serving food. 

Hearing the hapless woman scream with pain during the assault, neighbours came rushing to the spot and tried to save her. But Ratani threatened them of consequences and chased them away. However, the villagers somehow managed to take control of Ratani and informed about the incident to the police. 

By the time, a team from Soro police station reached the village and recovered Satyabhama, she had lost her life. He body has been sent for post-mortem. 

“Shrill cries of a woman burst my ears and I realised that it was coming from Satyabhama’s house. I wasted little time to reach their home but found Ratani beating her mercilessly. When I tried to intervene, he chased after me like a madman. To save our lives, we took shelter in our neighbour’s house but there too, Ratani tried to kill us,” said Sumitra Behera, a relative of the deceased. 

Meanwhile, the police have detained Ratani and launched a detail investigation to ascertain the reason that drove him to kill his mother. Police are also said to have found that Ratani was in fact under the influence of alcohol when he resorted to the violence.
