In a new development in the sensational Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher murder, the police have reportedly recorded statements of two Bengali-speaking youths.

As per police sources, so far police have recorded statements of 10 witnesses under Sec 164 of CrPC. Of the 10 witnesses, it was learnt that there were 2 Bengali-speaking youths, though the Bolangir police are yet to confirm the same and their links to the case.

The sources further informed that in the course of the investigation, police had come across the accused, Gobinda Sahoo, using six mobile phones with SIM cards registered in the name of other persons.

Earlier on Saturday, northern Range DIG Deepak Kumar claimed that the investigation into the sensational murder case is being done in a very professional manner.

The DIG said while statements of 10 witnesses have so far been recorded under Section 164 of CrPC, police have recorded statements of over 100 witnesses under Section 161 of CrPC.

He also refuted the allegations that the police had deliberately delayed submitting the case diary in the court. Detailing the timeline, he said a case was lodged on October 13, and within 24 hours was uploaded on CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems). For public holidays on October 13, 14 and 15, the case diary could be submitted to the court on the first working day (Oct 16) after the holidays.

Besides, every minute detail of the crime scene recreation is there in CD, claimed the Northern Range DIG.

"At this stage, we have some scientific reports to corroborate the witnesses' statement. The investigation is being conducted with utmost sincerity and to the best of our professional capabilities," he said.

Every document that will be produced before the court will be subjected to judicial scrutiny, said Kumar and added "We will get a conviction in this case."
