The Bolangir police filed the charge sheet in the sensational Mamita Meher murder case in the Bangomunda JMFC court in Bolangir district on Friday.

The Sindhekala police, which investigated the case, have mentioned two names of Gobinda Sahu, the prime accused in the murder case and his driver Radhe, who is the co-accused, in the charge sheet, under sections 302, 201 and 120 (B) of the IPC.

On February 15, the stipulated period of 120 days for submitting charge sheet against Gobinda Sahu from the day of his production in the court would have ended. However, the police filed the charge sheet before expiry of the period.

Public persecutor Pramod Panigrahi confirmed that the police had filed the charge sheet against Gobinda Sahu and Radhe within the stipulated period. “It indicates the completion of the investigation,” Panigrahi added.

Notably, Mamita Meher, a resident of Jharni village under Turekela Block of Bolangir district, who worked as a teacher at Sunshine English Medium School in Mahaling of Kalahandi district, went missing on October 8, 2021. Her decomposed body was exhumed from an under construction stadium at Mahaling in Kalahandi district on October 19.

Alleging the involvement of Minister of State for Home Dibyashankar Mishra in the case due to his alleged links with Gobinda Sahu, the Opposition parties have been cornering the ruling BJD party. They have still been demanding the scalp of the Minister.
