Gobinda Sahu, who has been remanded to police custody for five days in connection with the lady teacher Mamita Meher murder case, is being grilled on others involvement in the crime by the Bolangir Police.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Bolangir Police had produced Sahu before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Bangomunda and sought his remand for seven days. However, the court allowed the police to take him on remand for five days.

After getting permission from the court yesterday, police took Sahu directly to the SP office and conducted a marathon interrogation the entire night in presence of Northern Range DIG Deepak Kumar.

Sources said police is questioning Sahu about the details of the murder and regarding the involvement of others in the crime. Police are reportedly questioning Sahu about how did he kill Mamita and take her to the stadium.

Police are also interrogating Sahu about what Mamita knew about his alleged illicit relationship and if that was the reason behind the planned murder.

Mamita, who was teacher at Sunshine Model School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district had threatened Sahu, the president of the School Management Committee (SMC), to expose his alleged extra-marital affairs. Sahu had a grudge against her and in order to take revenge, he decided to eliminate her, the Northern Range DIG had informed in a press meet on Wednesday.

The DIG had further revealed that after strangling Mamita to death in his car on October 8, Sahu took the body to the under-construction stadium of the school for disposal and burnt the body with the help of cardboards and tyres before burying it.
