The Mahanga police have sought one month more time to file the reinvestigation status report and the call detail records (CDR) of the three accused in the Mahanga double murder case.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court, Salepur, had earlier ordered the Mahanga police to file the reinvestigation status report and CDRs by November 25. The police then had pleaded for some more time to file so and the court had granted the time till November 29.

When today the court heard the matter, the police again pleaded for granting a month’s time more to file the reports.

Meanwhile, Ramakanta Baral, son of the slain BJP leader Kulamani Baral, has filed a fresh petition in the court seeking direction to the police for immediate filing of CDR report. The hearing on the petition could not be held because the judge was absent.

The court has ordered a fresh probe on the Mahanga double murder on a petition of Ramakanta. The son of the slain BJP leader moved to court when police dropped the name of Minister Pratap Jena from the charge sheet.

Speaking to the media, Ramakanta alleged that the police are buying time deliberately with an intention to influence the witnesses.

BJP leader Kulamani Baral and his associate Dibya Singh Baral were hacked to death at Salepur in Cuttack district on January 3 this year.
