The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court, Salipur on Friday ordered the Salipur SDPO to complete the investigation of the sensational Mahanga double murder case soon in which BJP leader Kulamani Baral and his associate were brutally killed.

Earlier, taking cognizance of the inordinate delay in the investigation, the court had issued a show-cause notice and sought a status report on the progress of the probe by June 20.

Salipur SDPO Bimal Kumar Barik on June 24 filed the up-to-date case diary and a status report stating that the investigation is continuing and is likely to be completed within a short span of time.

The previous investigating officer (IO) of the murder case was transferred on May 15 and as per the order of Superintendent of Police (SP), Cuttack, he has taken charge of the investigation on June 16 and is continuing the investigation on a day-to-day basis.

The court found out on the perusal of the material on record that there was a break in the investigation from May 11 to June 16.

The court directed to take up day-to-day investigation of the case and submit further investigation report as soon as possible avoiding further delay.

It is pertinent to mention that Congress and the BJP have been levelling serious allegations against the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in connection with the case.

Earlier, Congress had alleged that the prime accused in the murder, Prafulla Biswal, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances, was actually eliminated by the local leaders so that he did not reveal the truth behind the sensational case.
