Two unidentified robbers, including a minor, pulled off a Bollywood style robbery by posing as guests at a wedding venue in Bhubaneswar last week.

The duo decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs 2 lakh without raising any suspicion as the families and other guests at the venue were busy in the function.

The incident took place at 'Pallavi Mandap', the wedding venue in Kesura area of the capital city on January 23.

The duo’s role surfaced during the scrutiny of CCTV footage by the bride’s family when they started searching for the lost jewellery.

As per reports, the duo entered the venue posing as guests before they lay their hands on the gold ornaments kept for the ‘Bandapana’ ritual. However, the bride’s family was clueless about theft till the need of the ornaments for the ritual came.

Later during the scrutiny of the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the Mandap, the family saw a minor boy fleeing with the bag in which the jewellery was kept.

Family sources said that the bag contained a necklace, 2 earrings and 5 (finger) rings which were to be presented to the bride and the groom during the wedding rituals.

In the CCTV footage, the looters can be seen entering the venue and mingling with the guests with ease. After a while, the minor can be seen entering the room where the bride and other family members were present. His senior associate was seen keeping watch near the door of the room.

After later, the minor boy is seen coming out of the room with a red bag while his associate follows him after sometime.

The bride's father Satyanarayan Mohapatra said after they came to know about the incident they filed a complaint with the Saheed Nagar police.

However, the police are yet to register an FIR in the case, alleged Mohapatra.

He said they handed over the CCTV footage to the police as demanded. “However, the police are not taking the investigation forward,” alleged Mohapatra.

The response of Saheed Nagar police is yet to be obtained.
