Raising questions over the effectiveness of police patrolling in the State capital, several unidentified miscreants broke open the gate of the government quarters of Prasanth Reddy, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, located at VIP colony in Nayapalli area in Bhubaneswar on Saturday evening.

According to sources, taking advantage of the IAS officer’s absence, the looters barged into the quarters (Qr No- A/6 ) of the officer at around 8 pm on Saturday by breaking open two locks. However, they had to return empty-handed due to unknown reasons.

IAS Reddy is presently in Jharkhand due to some official engagements, sources added.

On being informed about the incident, Nayapalli police visited the quarters and launched an investigation into the matter.

“When I reached the quarters at around 7.17 pm, I found the lock broken and the lights were on. I immediately informed my office and the cook of the IAS officer. A crowbar and a screwdriver were found from inside the house, ” Pradeep Samal, a security guard deployed at the IAS officer’s quarters said.

“The miscreants fled the quarters through backdoors without looting anything," he added.
