In a real-life twist, reminiscent of a Bollywood plot — only this time with the roles reversed — a woman has taken center stage as the accused in a con job that echoes the charm-and-deceive antics usually reserved for the big screen. As per initial reports, the Rajasthan Police has arrested a woman on charges of cheating 25 grooms, fleeing with cash, and jewellery days after marrying them.
The accused, identified as Anuradha Pasawan, had become popular as ‘looting bride’ or ‘looteri dulhan’.
Sources said that every time the lady would identify herself to prospective grooms with a new name and used to target new cities. After selecting targets, Anuradha used to trick them into fake marriages, play the ideal bride and perfect daughter-in-law before decamping with cash and jewellery.
Interestingly, the accused hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district, and only one case has been registered against her in the Mantoan police station of Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district.
The cops then tricked her into a fake marriage and nabbed her from Bhopal based on a complaint filed by one Vishnu on May 3. The complainant had alleged that two individuals, including a woman from Rajasthan, had promised him to find a suitable bride for him and showed Anuradha’s picture.
After the complainant agreed to marriage, the two middlemen facilitated a fake marriage agreement on April 20, and he was charged Rs 2 lakh for the same. Barely 12 days after the marriage, Anuradha allegedly fled with cash, jewellery, and a mobile phone.
