In a major heist, unidentified miscreants allegedly struck a jewellery shop in the Capital City of Bhubaneswar and looted gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 1 crore.

The loot was reported at a jewellery shop named Laxmi Narayan Jewellers located at Delta Chhak in the capital city on Saturday night.

The matter came to light after the shop owner lodged a complaint with the Khandagiri Police on Sunday.
According to the complaint of the shop owner, the thieves looted 1 kg of gold ornament, 10 kg of silver ornaments and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash.

The robbers reportedly gained entry into the shop by breaking open the shutter and grille using a gas cutter. They also disconnected the CCTV cameras installed inside the shop before executing the loot.

“My son closed the shop at around 9.30 pm last night and went home. Today (Sunday) morning when he came to open the shop, he was shocked to find the grille and shutter open. I immediately reached the shop after getting a call from him. We found all the jewellery missing,” claimed the owner of the shop.

“The robbers looted the gold and silver items which were in display and cash worth R 1.5 lakh. However, the gold jewellery kept inside the locker are safe,” he added.

Meanwhile, police have launched a probe into the incident. The cops have reportedly got footage of a robber captured in a CCTV camera installed closed to the shop.
