Loot, gang rape in Bhubaneswar apartment: Maitri Vihar police detain 2 burglars, further probe on

Maitri Vihar police have detained two burglars for gang raping a woman after looting her apartment in Bhubaneswar. The woman was with her little daughter when the burglars barged into her apartment and committed the heinous crime.

The incident occurred at around 2 am in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday when the 27-year-old woman was asleep in her apartment along with her daughter. The burglars looted her gold earrings and mobile phone. After finding that no male member was present in the house, the burglars held the woman at knife-point and gang raped her in front of her daughter.

They threatened to kill her daughter if she revealed it to anyone. 

The matter came to the fore after the victim lodged an FIR with Maitri Vihar police. The incident has sent shockwaves, pointing at poor police patrolling in the Temple City of Bhubaneswar. A case of rape and loot has been registered.

As the apartment complex did not have any CCTV camera, cops are trying to retrieve the CCTV footage from nearby areas. Sources said a special squad of the Commissionerate Police is also probing the matter.
