The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested a looter from Kolkata in connection with gold jewellery loot from a jewellery workshop in Cuttack.

The burglar, identified as Sushant Rui Das, had looted gold ornaments from the workshop located at Firingi Bazar in Cuttack on July 4.

According to sources, the Purighat police has recovered 900.32 gram gold worth around Rs 50 lakh from the accused.

The Purighat Police had formed a special team to nab the accused. After a detailed investigation, police got to know that the accused, Sushant, had fled to the capital city of West Bengal.

In a joint operation with Kolkata police, the police team from Cuttack arrested the accused and brought him to Odisha.

"I was under severe depression over family issues. I am not a regular offender, it was my first time," said the accused.

"The accused was working at the workshop for a while. After gaining trust, Das committed the crime and fled, " Pinak Mishra, Cuttack DCP said.
