Lady sub-inspector arrested for sexually harassing woman journalist on pretext of marriage in Odisha 

A  lady police sub-inspector was arrested on charges of exploiting a woman journalist of a web channel sexually on the pretext of marriage, police said on Sunday. 

The arrested cop has been identified as Tapaswini Mahapatra, who was posted at Chudamani Marine Police station in Bhadrak district. The victim fell prey to the accused cop perhaps because the latter always sported men’s haircut and, when not on duty, wore men’s dresses.

According to police, Mahapatra had been sexually abusing the victim, who is a woman, on the pretext of marriage. Acting on the complaint lodged by the victim, the Bhadrak Town police launched a probe. After a medical examination, the SI was arrested. 

“A woman alleged that sub-inspector Tapaswini Mahapatra harassed her sexually. On the basis of the complaint, an investigation was initiated. The accused sub-inspector was subjected to a medical examination. She was found out to be a female. She was produced in a court. Currently, she is under suspension. The next course of action will be decided as per the investigation,” informed city DSP, Bhadrak, Anshuman Dwibedy. 

The accused cop was produced in court. A detailed investigation is underway, police said.
