The Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested two women of a gang whose modus operandi is to trap and loot passengers coming out of the railway station at Master Canteen in Bhubaneswar.

While the police are yet to reveal their identities, they said the women have several cases pending against them.

According to a source, a gang of women is on the prowl in the capital city of Bhubaneswar.  They target passengers coming out of the railway station. Then they approach their target on one pretext or another. They then demand money and if not paid they create a ruckus on the main road. They threaten the target with harassment charges if not paid.

However, the luck of two members of this gang ran short on Saturday. They had trapped a youth, who was to board a Chennai-bound train.

He then lodged a complaint at Kharavela Nagar Police Station. The police swung into action and arrested the duo. The police also seized mobile phones and some money from them. Later, they were produced in a court.

“They generally target passengers coming out from the station. They then try to snatch the valuables. If he protests, they threaten him with a police case for harassment,” informed Manas Ranjan Gadnayak, ACP, Zone-I.

When asked, one of the arrested women said they were doing it regularly. “It is not new. There are many of our members out there,” said one of the arrested ladies.
