Scores of investors are now staring at an uncertain future as bulk of the savings in various postal department schemes has allegedly been embezzled by a lady postal agent in Bhubaneswar. Instead of depositing money in respective schemes, a lady postal agent allegedly misappropriated around Rs 15 lakh in deposits.

As per the allegations, most of the depositors had handed over money to the lady postal agent trusting her. However, the misappropriation came to light after the depositors started demanding passbooks of their accounts. Later, the depositors visited the post office and learnt that no money was deposited against their names.

The duped depositors also suspect the involvement of others in the crime and have lodged a complaint at Lingaraj Police Station.

Meanwhile, police have seized over 100 postal passbooks from the residence of the lady postal department agent.

“I had deposited Rs 1,000 per month and the scheme matured after 5 years. The money was handed over to me by the agent. Later, I had handed over Rs 6 lakh fixed deposit and other schemes. As the server was down in post office, it was not updated. Later, she did not respond to my request,” alleged Swarnaprabha Mahasuar, a complainant.

Mahasuar informed that she deposited around Rs 15 lakh through the lady postal agent who is not handing over the passbook for the last four months. “The family members of the lady postal agent are also misbehaving with us,” the complainant added.
