Knife attack on journalist in Odisha; victim shifted to Visakhapatnam
A journalist was critically injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon by an allegedly drug-addicted youth in Papadahandi, Nabarangpur district, on Friday night. The victim, identified as Sumit Kumar Ghanta, was returning home when the assailant reportedly launched a murderous attack.
Sources said the accused, who was allegedly inebriated, attacked Ghanta with a sword near Bhabani Chhak, leaving him seriously wounded. When the journalist overpowered him, the accused started attacking him with a knife.
Ghanta sustained multiple stab wounds to his abdomen and chest. He was first rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to Visakhapatnam in critical condition, sources added.
Sources said the journalist had earlier lodged a complaint with the police against the accused youth over his drug-related activities. The attack is suspected to be an act of revenge.

Following the incident, locals caught hold of the accused and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. The youth also sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at a local medical facility.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which has sparked outrage among journalists and residents in the area.
