Mystery around the death of two lovebirds deepened after their families were caught red-handed as they were trying to set their bodies on fire in a forest at Dangarmunda under Saintala police limits in Bolangir district on Saturday.

Police, acting on a tip-off, reached the spot and seized the bodies. Police have detained the family members after sending the bodies for post-mortem.

According to sources, Chandra Bhoi of Dangarmunda was in love with his cousin sister who was a resident of Nuapada village under Tusara police limits. Chandra and his cousin sister eloped after their families did not give their consent for their marriage. On way home, Chandra and his cousin sister got married.

However, Chandra’s family did not let him and his wife to enter home following which Chandra left his house along with his wife on Friday. On Saturday, both of them were found dead and their family members were caught while trying to char the bodies without informing police.

Police started investigation to ascertain whether the lovebirds have committed suicide or they were killed as they married within the community.

It is being alleged that the family members of Chandra and his girlfriend were behind the crime. The duo was killed by the family members who later tried to set the bodies ablaze to hush up the case.
