The Maitri Vihar Police under the Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD) rescued a man on Monday who was allegedly kidnapped from VSS Nagar area in Bhubaneswar.

The police have arrested three accused in this connection.

The victim, Manoj Sethi is reportedly a contractor residing in VSS Nagar area.

He was rescued from a house in Gadakana on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

As per reports, the victim was allegedly kidnapped by the accused on the pretext of awarding him a contract from VSS Nagar area. Following the kidnap, the accused also demanded Rs 5 lakh ransom from his wife.

Bhubaneswar Zone-5 ACP, Sanjeev Satapathy said, “We received a complaint from Sethi’s wife about his disappearance since Saturday. The kidnappers had called her from Sethi’s mobile phone to demand ransom and threatened to kill Sethi if she does not give them Rs 5 lakh.”

Maitri Vihar Police along with the Special Squad raided a house at Gadakana and rescued Sethi. Three accused have been arrested and another accused is absconding and will soon be apprehended too,” said, Satapathy.

The police have launched a probe in this connection to ascertain involvement of other persons.
