In a strange turn of events, an inspector-in-charge (IIC) of a police station in Bhubaneswar has lodged a complaint against his own name.

The police officer is attached to Balipatna police station, located on the outskirts of the Capital city.

The police officer, identified as Krupasindhu Barad, has also lodged a complaint against sub-inspector (SI) Rakesh Samal following directions from Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh.

On October 3, police brought one Saroj Bhoi, a resident of Giringo Bhoi Sahi village under Balipatna police limits, to the police station in connection with a case. In the police station, Bhoi was allegedly beaten up black and blue by IIC Barad, SI Samal and other staff at the police station.

The police brutality didn’t stop there. Instead of taking him to hospital, they produced a seriously injured Bhoi in the court, accusing him of attacking men in khaki.

Later, following complaints of severe pain, he was shifted from jail to hospital.

Taking note of the serious incident, 'Dalita O Adivasi Milita Mancha', a social outfit, staged a demonstration in front of the police station demanding justice for the victim and action against the wrongdoers. Bhoi’s wife too met DCP Singh and took the matter up with him, pleading for justice.

After realizing the seriousness of the case, DCP Singh asked the IIC to lodge a complaint against his own name and SI Samal. As per the report, a case has been registered in this connection.
