Police on Friday arrested a man, who was working as the supervisor at the Udala Sub Divisional Hospital in Mayurbhanj district, for allegedly duping job aspirants of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of providing jobs to them in the hospital. 

The arrested person has been identified as Rajat Kumar Patra.

According to a source, Patra has been working at the Udala Sub Divisional Hospital for five years. During his service period, he duped several job aspirants of lakhs of rupees, promising to give them sweeper and attendant jobs at the hospital. Several people of the Kaptipada area also fell victim to Patra. Upon realizing that they have been duped, the victims started searching for him following which he disappeared. 

On Friday, the victims visited Patra’s house and found him there. They captured him and later handed him over to the police. 

“Rajat Patra had taken Rs 1.7 lakhs from my brother, nephew, and sister-in-law in 2017, promising them sweeper and clerk jobs at the hospital. When we started demanding our money, he disappeared,” alleged Sabita Mukhi, one of the victims.  

While launching a probe into the allegations, the police are currently interrogating Patra.
