Tension prevailed in Khordha after a few villagers detained a home guard and a constable while they were allegedly trying to transport seized firecrackers and liquor in a vehicle on Saturday night. The liquor and firecrackers were seized and stored at Begunia police station in two separate cases on Saturday.

As per initial reports, some villagers intercepted the vehicle and later detained the home guard and the constable when they were trying to shift the seized firecrackers and liquor. Both the home guard and the constable were handed over to the SDPO.

In a viral video, the constable can be seen pleading with the local sarpanch and villagers gathered at the spot.

Later, SDPO and other senior officials reached the spot and seized the car. Carrying out probe into the incident, police arrested the homeguard Prakash Muduli and a driver on Sunday.

"We have registered a case under IPC sections-379, 411, 34, 52 A Odisha Excise Act and 9 B of Indian Explosives Act. We have arrested two persons including a homeguard driver and a civilian. We will carry out further investigation in an impartial manner," said SDPO.
