The Cuttack Police on Saturday arrested a Home Guard, a truck driver and a helper on charges of attempting to rape a woman in Manguli area on the outskirts of the city on Friday night.

As per reports, two days back, Naba Kishore Nayak, the truck driver along with his helper Gopal Samal had brought the woman (victim) from Puri district by promising her to provide a job in Cuttack.

Moreover, the helper had made fake promises of marrying the woman, informed sources.

The truck driver Naba hails from Nuapatana area, while Gopal is a resident of Kumarpur area under Athagarh sub-division in the district.

However, on Friday night, the duo dropped her near Manguli square and fled the spot after Naba kept her at his home the previous night. Later, the duo switched off their mobiles.

Not finding any other option, the victim went to the police aid post near Manguli square hoping for help from the protectors of law.

However, the on-duty home guard at the aid post, identified as Binay Das, allegedly made attempts to rape the woman in the post. The woman was lucky enough to escape from his clutches. She rushed to the Tangi Police Station and filed a complaint.

The police promptly took action based on the complaints and arrested the home guard, truck driver and helper on Saturday and filed a case against them. Further probe into the case is on.

"The victim alleged that the home guard promised her help and offered money for food. But she refused to accept the money. She has also alleged that the home guard forcibly kept physical relation with her," said Satyabrata Lenka, SDPO, Choudwar.

Lenka added, "We have intensified the investigation and are trying to ascertain the movement details of the victim prior to the incident and her family's whereabouts."

Meanwhile, the victim has been shifted to Sakhi ashram, a shelter home.
